MP, robot tourney, best hand South

A few points.

I am not happy with the description of the 2S raise. Given that he has two opposition suits to cue bid below 2S, I would be astonished if West could hold as many as 16 total points as described for a direct raise.

I am not happy that X of 2S should be forcing to 3N. I don't insist on it and if others agree that it is sensible then so be it. Arguably this hand is a case in favour of the treatment, but he has other forcing sequences available, such as a direct or delayed cue of Spades. After doubling he gets another bid (unless I convert to penalties, which I think that I am still entitled to do). This is not the only occasion where I have found odd sequences to be so strongly forcing.

I know that my pass of 3D is contrary to system, as we are supposedly forced to 3N. And indeed as the D finesse works we make 3N or 6D, and 5D does not even rely on the D finesse. My bad. I was influenced by the knowledge that partner could not be stronger than me.

But the main point of the hand is the 3S bid. Seriously?? 3S???

Huh? Is there a round of bidding missing from the auction as posted?

No missing bids. X of 2S is systemically forcing to 3N. 3D is short of 3N, so my pass of 3D is asystemic.

I was confident that 2 (possibly 3) of partner’s 13 "total" points were tied up in a Spade shortage. Valuable in 5D but not in 3N. My bad for dismissing 5D. 3N was on a finesse so in that regard my judgement was not far off.

I may need stronger reading glasses, or maybe I just need to understand better, but I still see neither a 3D bid nor any time that you passed after the X of 2S.

Oh deary me, you are right, there is a missing round of bidding. It is I who need the reading glasses. Next I will be making 6+1 off an AK and wonder if I should be in 7,

Anyway, here is the correct sequence (which you may have guessed)! Rather than go back and edit the original post and destroy the thread I will re-enter the correction here:
