IMPs!!
This was a Robot duplicate, best hand South, IMP game. Traveller 8207-1373053801-59778513
They got their cross-ruff going so I slid two down at table 18. But the point of interest for me was East's decision to double me into game. I might take a flyer at MP (not!) but at IMPs?
When I click on the X it is described as:
"2- S; 10+ HCP; biddable H; 12- total points"
OK, so where are the "10+ HCP"?
It is perhaps mildly surprising (particularly in light of what happened at another table, shown below), that North chose to pass the 2H overcall, given that GIB describes the 2H as
"Rebiddable H; 13-18 total points"
Meanwhile, at another table (10), the bidding went:
W.....N.....E.....S
1S....P....1N....P
2C....P.....2D....2H
P....2N.....P.....3N
P.....P......P
Here the 2H bid is described as
"5+ H; 10+ HCP, 20- total points"
I suppose that the possibility of South having 19-20 total points on this auction is what propelled North into 2N at this table when he passed at mine, but I find the logic tenuous. And he managed to pursuade East not to double 3N here where he was happy to double 2H into game at our table.
As an aside, I am not keen on East's choice of 2D on this hand. Granted that the 2C bid might be on a 3 card suit it would still be my preference to pass 2C. What do others think?
Clicking on the 2N reveals the explanation
"11-13 HCP; stop in D"
OK so where is the 11 HCP?
