Is there an advantage to qualifying as USA 1 rather than USA 2, apart from the prestige?
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Is it possible that the team that qualifies as USA1 is likely to be the better team?

EDIT oh I guess that is the same as the prestige thing

One of them can get back to Jen and the baby a day sooner. I assume that would be Gavin.

I don't see any real advantage after both teams are picked. If they both make it to the semi-finals of the Bermuda Bowl, then they have to play each other. I guess the world will view USA1 as the better team until proven otherwise at the Bermuda Bowl.

I think it's fairly random whether USA 1 or USA 2 was better. Nickell was USA 1 three times and USA 2 three times, and I doubt that made a difference in how people regard them. In the last ten bermuda bowls, USA 2 did better than USA 1 six times.

Do the teams receive the same level of funding from USBF?

I don't know if it makes a difference in the BB itself, but maybe USA1 awards more seeding points in other ACBL championships.

my impression was, that USA1 was determined earlier, and that you could
try to qualify for USA2, if you missed to qualify for USA1.

Just my impression from loosely following the talk here on BBF.

If this is the case, you can make plans for the the BB a bit earlier,
if you are USA1.

With kind regards

A day or two earlier, if you lose the USA1 match, you play 90 boards against the winners of the repechage starting the next day IIRC.

Might USA1 get a higher seeding at the BB? Or is that irrelevant based on the competition format?

It's irrelevant as they play a complete round-robin with the top eight making the knockout stages.

I think one of the vugraph commentators yesterday (maybe LC?) mentioned that USA1 gets a bigger subsidy.

USA1 and USA2 receive the same stipend from the USBF.
Jan Martel, who should probably state that she is not speaking on behalf of the USBF, the ACBL, the WBF Systems Committee, or any member of any Systems Committee or Laws Commission.
