Match point pairs

The 2♦bid we play as forcing. Views on your next bid would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'd try 3♠.

I upgrade the ♦Q9 and bid 3♠.

3S seems like a normal bid, not an upgrade. Is 2S an alternative? I don't think so.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Yes I bid 3♠ also and partner raised to 4♠. Down 2 as west has ♣AKJ108 and can give east 2 club ruffs. This was a very ordinary club MP evening giving us an equal bottom. 3N makes but no pair in it. 4♦makes but it seems a bit much expecting partner to rebid diamonds. Had she done so is this passable?

2♠ is like a "I don't know what to do"-bid (like you open 1♠ and partner responds 2♦). So 3♠ seems very normal to me.

Hi,

3S is normal, 2S is your weakest response, and I have a way better hand,
than my normale rubbish.
3S is not forcing, just invitational, but I am not familiar with a style,
that plays 2D as forcing. I would guess your partner could be slightly weaker,
than the hand she happens to have.
Does 2D it deny a fit? If it does, and if 2D showes 5 1/2 diamonds, 3D may be
an alternative to 3S.

Regarding the final result: You reached game, holding a combined 25HCP count,
a misfit to a certain extend, game did not make, next bord.

With kind regards

I think 2♠ would be pretty ridiculous. The first alternative to 3♠ would surely be 2NT; third choice the overbid of 3♣. 2♠ just does not enter the frame. A better question to ask would have been Advancer's second bid. Overcaller has shown around 12-14, so passing 3♠ on the presumed misfit would not be outrageous, certainly not as bad as a 2♠ rebid from Overcaller.

3♥ looking for partner to have a ♥ stopper so you have time to set-up your tricks if you don't have 9 top tricks

but i think 3♠ is the practical bid, just unfortunate your down

I am not familiar with 2/1 when advancing an overcall being forcing either (as Marlowe). But, if we did play 2D as forcing, advancer passing a jump rebid from partner would be from another planet.

As for the 3S rebid "showing" 12-14 (per Zel), I don't understand unless the top of your overcalls is 14. Our top is 17-ish.

With a maximum overcall you can cue bid a game-forcing 3♣. That is: 2♠ min; 2NT/3♠ extras but not GF; 3♣ = GF. I thought I had effectively written this in the previous post by describing 3♣ as an overbid.

O.K., then that makes two things from this thread I am unfamiliar with. The first was a forcing 2D; the second is 3C by the overcaller being an artificial cue when no fit has been established. We would use 3C to show 5+ clubs.

If you play 2♦ as forcing, then either the intervenor needs a whole lot to intervene or otherwise your partner's 2♦ is an overbid (You could have bid 1♠ with much less). Also IMO a bid of 3NT might be better than 4♠ . Your partner has no fit for you; you can always remove to 4♠ if you must.
