In the run up to the Home Internationals in March I am running a number of matches for the Scotland team. Would a team of forum members like to take them on?

Twenty-four boards on Monday 11 February starting at 1900 GMT, 2000 CET, 1400 EST.

There is one regular forum member in the Scotland team (phil_20686).

Thanks.

Another two players would be helpful. Anyone else interested?

I can make it (barely - if you find another two players I'd be happy to let them).
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I'm in. Even if I'm not selected, I'll be on BBO just in case somebody doesn't or can't show up.

Do I lose my work permit if I root for BBF?

I think it would be safer just to boo the pair from Glasgow.

I wish to accommodate a Welsh pair needing the practice so I propose that Fluffy and Diana Eva play the first twelve boards and chasetb and gzses the second twelve. Since the Scottish pairs are not quick this also addresses Fluffy's time constraints.

Hope this is okay with everyone :)

Thanks

Paul

Well, unfortunately BBF lost, and I'll take the blame on it. One hand I played extremely poorly after making a poor decision, and the other hand I made a bad (horrible? wimpy? stupid?) decision.

What would you do? If you are a non-passer, how much weaker / less shape would the hand have to be for you to not compete? Here is the board: http://tinyurl.com/c6uj3h4

On a side note, since I've taken the blame, would you take any action with the North hand? If you said no, how much stronger / more shape would the hand need before you take any action? If you said yes, how much weaker / less shape would the hand need to be before you pass?

Many thanks to Chase and Diana for playing this evening and providing a good test for their opponents. The difference was only fifteen imps and, of course, Chase was not the only one who made a mistake - actually he made fewer than others.

On his hand above

I would pass out 4. I need more defence (aces) to double, as partner will pass much of the time. I need much more playing strength to bid 4 by myself.

For me this would be a WTP pass. Although looking more closely I suppose with E a passed hand the likelihood you go for a phone number is lowered, but I still can't imagine acting.

Auto-double for me. We can easily be making game or taking a penalty, the upside is just way bigger than the downside. I generally think max passed hands should be aggressive where reasonable to take a bit of pressure off partner.
