5C is an idiotic bid on the given hand. I would bid 5S over 5C.

I wouldnt call it idiotic. Thats way too rude imo. I dont think he asked for insult when he said he wants comments about his bid.

I would not bid 5 myself vs an unpassed pd, but i dislike the DBL of 6 more. East may hold the same hand with a little detail difference and was about to believe his pd has decent suit untill you double and they may find the correct slam with KQJxxx Q Axxxxx void West holding the same hand. After all i dont think u needed to worry that u had a game bonus to protect.

They aren't randoms. Jillybean is well known- pity she is still at Intermediate level at best.

Seriously, what's the point of this? If downvotes were still permitted your post would be into double figures.

5 seems like an extreme position to take on a pretty good hand. Obviously, it worked well on this hand (remarkably well), but it could certainly have worked out poorly.

Essentially, you have decided that LHO is more likely to have a good hand than partner. So you chose to disrupt their auction as much as possible. You were certainly right, and the bid worked about as well as it possibly could have worked.

Of course, if LHO makes a more rational 5 call, and it goes all pass, you are back to par. But he had a problem hand, and his 5NT call could have worked.

I doubt that you will get an answer, I haven't got an answer from the personal message that I left for him (? I assume).
I am happy with my game, could I do more/better? Sure. I don't know who cloa513 is, I don't remember playing with him,
so I don't know how he is judging my skill or my progress. I don't understand him giving me a shot here, maybe I whipped
his ass in a TG? :P

Most of his rude, obnoxious comments are in the GIB forum.

Another reason why I don't read the GIB forum.

Doesn't make much sense to me... if I let them play anything undoubled then surely 5NT?

Yes of course, i didnt even feel the need to say u shd have passed 5NT.

What doesnt make sense to me is, seeing someone who just made a "not everyone's choice" 5 bid which seems to be worked very well (5 NT was passed to you), is now trying to blow it up by starting a dbl spree.

First you made the winning bid whether we agree or not, which brought them to a contract that would give you +700, then u decided to DBL which could turn this +700 into -650, it didnt fortunately for you. Then you doubled 6, which was 1 card shift in East hand away from making 6 .

I would be more cautious if i were you when one made 5NT call red vs white over his pd's minimum opener.

Gain/loss ratio was overwhelmingly on favour of silently passing, regardless of how frequently they may or may not make 6 imo.

I presumed, in the context of the game/table, that Michael doubled 5NT to help jillybean rather than increase his score.

It is the extreme opposite of sensible. When i look that up in the dictionary my description comes to mind.

There is undo button for that, but if that was the case anyway then of course its nobel of him i guess.

I like the 5 bid. It is much harder to defend against 1 anything (5 m) if the hands are not allways weak. And I see no good way to bid this hand slowly.

So I had been in slam with the E/W Hhands too...
Kind Regards

I know very little about classy and what it has to do with doubling 5NT, but I understand that cloa's ridiculous post was far from classy.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
