Playing in an 8 board team game. Early hand is:

ASSUME VUL vs. Vul

AQJXXX=Q7X=J9XX=VOID

PLAYING WITH AN EXPERT P FOR FIRST TIME BIDDING IS

1C=1H=1S=?

assume 1c=Polish club, whatever that is.
assume you are playing basic 2/1 with no special agreements or discussions.

Depends which version of Polish C the opps are playing as to what opener is likely to have for his 1C opening. I would assume here that they are not playing a Precision style 2C opening, and I would guess this is what opener has.
This is a pretty good hand with the S hook likely to work. I'd certainly give pd a cue raise - prefer 2C as a cue raise and raise a 2H bid to 3, but undiscussed you'd better bid 2S. If he simply bids 3H then I am passing.

This hand is very good. Of course, it would be nice to know your partners concept of defensive bidding over big club or polish club. A leap to 4 is not totally out of the question, it is that strong... but i would bid to give partner a way out.... for me it is 2nt, showing a fit (4 cards, well I am one short)... to see what happens.

Hi Ben
what about a responsive X showing exactly 3 hearts with an honour?
Al
Play Bridge for fun and entertainment and to meet nice people.
BAD bidding may be succesful due to excellent play, but not vice versa.

I dont like this hand as much as others do, the hand wont play so well because partner when partner isnt strong, the spade suit rate to be wasted (he probebly isnt strong here).
I would bid 2c if that show fit.

Al

To play double to show 3 to an honor is new to me, make more sense to play it with 3 smalls or 2 to an honor.
