How should the auction go with GIB? That is, how do we find the goodish 3NT? Obviously GIB thought it could pass 3H (not sure if this is a bug).

I'd say instead of the second double, how about a 2NT most likely partner has one spade cover hopefully GIB will take you to 3NT. You are actually in trouble if you let North bid 3NT from heart finesses- hard to tell how GIB will actually play but best play takes you down.

Actually 3NT can be made by North.
After lead W will be in trouble when all clubs are played.
If W returns after winning first , S plays a J which W must duck.
Now 4 times clubs and W must keep A, AQ,Qxx.
S plays now a spade and W must give a heart trick or 3 diamond tricks.
If W keeps 2 diamonds, S takes AK and exits with spades.

How about a low spade return after the heart lead, then W can discard a heart and 3 spades on the run of clubs. Dummy is kept isolated by the A.
Then no matter how you play it- you lose a diamond, 3 hearts and a Ace of spades.

It is the same situation as with a club return.
The key is S having diamond 10
After 5 clubs S plays last spade and W must play a diamond and will be thrown in second time with a heart to give three diamond tricks.
