i see nothing gained here by reopening

best case scenario, partner bids 2♦ and opps compete to 2♥

worst case, i push opps into 1 or 2 NT, or a 9card 2♠ - none of which i'm not wild about defending

seems very few are afraid of a psych :-/, I actually thoug if it having a potetial high risk, I had to ask myself is there was any plausible hand where nobody was bidding over 1♥ and west didn´t had at least 5 spades (in wich case he is favorite for being psyching).

So your afraid that LHO has a mountain of spades instead of the heart suit; and pard made a trap pass of 1♥? Possible I suppose; but RHO isn't in on the joke either and passed as well. Far more likely is that the hands look like this:


West doesn't want to double 1♦ for lack of a single club. North has a clear pass of 1♥, and East doesn't want to make forcing spade call on the 5-6.

i think your lho has spades and hearts, 5=6 maybe, and a strong hand... he's gonna reverse and show spades if he has a chance.. passing seems like a good idea to me

in phil's example hand, i strongly disagree with east passing... his hand semms to have good playing strength (barring a very possible misfit), so i'd bid 1S with it

Pass for me. Someone has spades and it isn't us or pd. Maybe 1h is a psyche but I'm not prepared to re-open on the chance, they almost certainly have a spade fit anyway.
