ACBL standard convention card doesn't have a place to distinguish them; do CC's in other jurisdictions do this? While there are some pairs that play different conventions (e.g. transfers in direct, natural in balancing, to get the NT bidder on lead), I suspect it's uncommon.
I generally play the same convention in both seats, although my style differs. I won't usually balance against strong NT with 10 or more points, because partner is likely to be weak and my strength is under the NT bidder. And I'll balance with weak 4-4 hands, expecting partner to have a decent, balanced hand (if he were unbalanced he would have overcalled himself) that can support one of my suits.
