IMO both 4♦ and 4NT are huge overbids, 4♦ has not manypower to paly slam, he should be happy with a 3/4♠ bid.

4N is also an overbid, with 6♦ to take care with a known 8 card fit only there is a lot of trouble.

The hand looks hopeless, but maybe looking for a opponent´s mistake is the best way to handle: discard a ♥ from dummy at trick one, if ♦A comes next you are in the way to stablish your ♦ :).
