Matchpoints.

1) Do you agree with North's first call (promises only 4 spades)?
2) Do you make another move?

Note: We frequently raise on three cards in an auction like this.

Definitely agree with 1 though I wish we were playing transfers. I would pass now.

I expect to go plus if I pass and everyone else does too.

1 seems pretty normal call to me, are you suggesting an alternative?

hmmm.. If I follow the losing trick blindly, I got 7 losers so I should shoot at 4(!!) now. Ok, so I have a void in what might be pard's main suit. Better invite only: 3.

Anyway, definitely make a move yes.

I thought I would ask. There might be someone out there who wants to make a negative double to get both majors in on one bid.

I dont think inviting is very sensible when partner is so unlikely to be able to maek a sensible evaluation. OTOH, I do want to be in game whenever partner has 4 spades. If it was imps I would just blast game probably, although I normally play that 2N is a relay in auctions like this to ask about partners hand, so I would do that if available.

So you are testing if there are any takers for the auction 1 (1) X (p); 2? [I prefer the 2 call show 4 with no xtras]

I think you are committed to a raise here and partner will play you for hearts. If you are playing negative doubles and long suit game tries how will partner view your hand after 1 (1) 1 (p); 2 (p) 3? A maximum of 3 cards in ? A near slam try? Certainly some partnership discussion appears needed in this area.

I prefer the neg X to show only 4H/ and 1H=5 so 1S = 4or5. But if my X show both M I double. The only time i wouldnt X holding both M is 6S+4H
