Yes, it depends on the ♣A being onside. Must hope to score 6 spades, 3 hearts and a club.

the reason i posted this is
the club ace wrong--but i now went 2 down
the 8 hts is the clue--6 spades-3 hts,
now club posn lead and play small.
rh opp stuffed-you go down 1 only,
any other play 2 down

I may or may not understand exactly what you're saying, but I believe the correct line is to win the ♥ lead, pull trumps, then lead ♥ again. They may or may not duck a few times, and hopefully our ♠9 will be an entry if they do duck.
In the case that I can't pitch a loser on the long ♥ immediately, I have to rely on the ♣A being onside to get an entry to pitch a club on the now good ♥.
I'm not really understanding your line, though. It sounds like you did something and played a club and LHO played low and you think you should play the 8 to put RHO on lead. Unfortunately this doesn't accomplish anything unless they worked hard to strip him of exits, and it's a big problem when the ♣A is onside. But if that is what happened, it's a good point. LHO must be aware that his partner is going to be endplayed and he must play a ♣ higher than the 8 on dummy that partner can duck .
Anyway, I think this is a contract just on a finesse; not really sure what is expert or world class about it. Sometimes even the experts go down 2!
