You hold--sp Q6--J986--KJ42--K75 and your partner is
dealer and opens 1cl! ply 15-17 n/t 5 card m and 1d=min 4 cards.

next opp bids 1 d. and if we removed the Q of sp for the 7.
would this affect ones choice of bids.....
suggestions with and without the q spades.....

1NT with the actual hand, 1♥ without the ♠Q.

1♥ wtp

Partner may be unable to bid notrump and a raise with 3 cards in ♥s will look normal to him. Now I do not mind 4-3 major suit fits, but this one does not look right to me.
Even if partner holds 4 cards in ♥s he may have a balanced hand and notrump might well be better.
I can see the play starting with a ♦ lead followed by ♦ruffs.

I see your point, but isn't opener very likely to hold 4♠ (or 6♣) when he has less than 4♥? Raising on a 3 card ♥ would be quite rare I think. (anyone up for a simulation? :D )

I think the error is not on the first round of bidding. Your suggestion of employing a neg. DBL without support for both majors only works well if the bidding remains low. But if opener has to bid ♠ at higher levels (say after ♦ raises) this is not so comfortable.
Your 2♣ rebid was not exactly enterprising with your 3.5 loser hand. 2♥ looks to me like a better description of your hand. Having exulted requirements for reverses has its disadvantages and puts a lot of strain on the lower level bids. If 2♣ is the last positive score your side can make you will never be allowed to play there anyway.
Your partner's pass over 2♣ is even worse. Your partner can also see that if opener is minimum for his bidding, opponents will never let you play 2♣.
Passing 2♣ is an invitation to them finding their fit in ♠ or for advancer to give belated support for ♦ in a weak hand. He should either have bid 2♥ (my choice with a maximum 1NT response) or 3♣.
The former is more descriptive (opener has not denied 4 cards in ♥), the latter does a better job in shutting out opponents, who will often have a ♠ fit on this sequence.
Meanwhile if opener is not minimum, chances for 3NT must be excellent. As it happens 4♥ is best, but 3NT, not quite cold, looks excellent too.
Give opener one more card in ♣ instead of a ♥ and 3NT is still excellent.
