Scenario---Having watched a lot of Vu-graph {Top flight games}and kibbitzed friends-I have arrived at these conclusions----PLAY in TEMPO.
wih International gamess a new board arrives, and we can see all 4 hands North is the dealer--and there is a long long pause----Pass then East long long pause 1D!
South long long pause X! West long long pause Pass ok, Long pauses all round, without Video,I assumed North{Female} was putting some Lipstick on,as to the other players {gentlemen) are adjusting their dress,or combing their Hair.
having said that whatever the outcome of the bidding and final contract,my next supposition is-the play of the cards
Assume now an ordinary BBo "Midnight Fun Tourney" with ones reg partner, and you arrive at a highish level contract.which requires some finneses.now you right hand opponent-who has none of the vital cards,as the play progresses you are in dummy
and you lead a side suit small now a long pause and eventually a non descript card hits the table after a long long pause........nothing on opps carding method's,
so play in Tempo goes out the window, you make a decision and go down,in all cases one had two way finnesses.
An explanation put up by BBO, one could be connection problems with the RH opp
and declarer should read nothing in the situation, but my conclusion is it is purposely done..........
Coming back to International games all experts obviously.they adopt a permanent pause in all bidding and play situations,to avoid any TD's being summoned, for unethical hesitations :D:)
am i correct ??
Have also noticed in low level games-if one is playing against expert players, they take long pauses in bidding and plays mimicing the international's when they have nothing to bid,or hold any vital cards--even when one is pulling trumps with no problems, it takes the experts a long time to play a card..

Players at any level should try to cultivate an unhurried tempo, which helps with

1) Avoiding giving UI to partner
2) Avoiding giving AI to opps
3) Allows an extra second thinking time

Also declarers can attempt to hussle defenders into mistakes by playing quickly. If you're in the habit of being always being unhurried it will tend to foil that strategy.
