OMG that really is his ID. I thought you were just using generic shorthand for middle hand opponent. I don't think we should be posting real IDs here, but thanks for the chuckle.

Fair do, though, he did his best to try to get you to declare Spades, which is the only making slam :)

I don't know what you mean. I selected and copied the dialogue as it appeared on my screen. XXXXXX held up the game by not bidding the next board and then left.

I'm used to the Walsh treatment (responder bypasses diamonds unless planning on reversing) and that is why I rebid 1N.

Excuse me?? 6NT better prospects??

On a Club lead (and the bidding is likely to suggest one) then you may get out OK if the opening leader has led away from the King (Zia might lead the King). But otherwise on a Club lead you have NO CHANCE, let alone better chances.

At least 6D makes as long as there is at least one heart honour onside and if only one you guess which. (OK if Dias break 3-1 and someone has Jxxx of Spades you may get all your guesses wrong, but then you are going to be no better off in 6N)

You have been playing too much Matchpoints, my friend. A "better scoring" 6N gains so little in IMPs and stands to lose so much that you would do better to stick to the safer slam.

Anyway, I fundamentally object to rebidding 1H on a 3-4-3-3 hand.

Straube - babalou's post was a joke. Just reversed the arrow. Have a chuckle. We all did

If you go about opening the bidding with no control to your card, who knows what will happen?

A man has to control his liquor, his women and his cards. If not, the world as we know it will come to an end.

Does everyone play Walsh? We don't here. 1D does not deny a major suit. Just bid your hand. Other than that - the robots don't talk back.

I don't, when I have my preference, play Walsh but if I were ever to rebid 1NT after 1C-1D this is the hand I would do it on. Walsh or not, I assume that after 1C-1D-1NT the responder's bid is 2S in any reasonable partnership, pick-up or not. Responder seems to be playing with himself, as the expression goes. 6D is not exactly what you would call a favorite but I have been in worse contracts.

Anyway, I take it we are not really supposed to analyze this whole silly thing but simply enjoy or deplore it, as is our wont.

if the OP felt strongly enough about posting this here, then probably feels strongly enough to report it. was just explaining the option. I don't think this is quite the right venue for venting.

Regardless of whether partner may have a 4 card major, which can still come to light if responder is strong enough to invite over 1N, the dangers of bidding a balanced hand as if it were 2-suited are just as great opposite a pickup partner as they are opposite a regular partner. But I agree that you have said enuff
