i wisely take the first spade and lead a heart.. if west doesn't rise, i insert J.. when next in, i lead another heart toward the 10... i'm hoping for A,x or Q,x doubleton with west... i need 2 heart tricks, so i think i'm playing west for a heart entry

Interesting hand. My first reaction was to cross to dummy and put the J♥ on the table. This looks however really bad if LHO wins with Ax or Qx and fires a heart back through. I am now in danger of losing 3 hearts, a diamond and spade, even though the A♦ may be onside.
So I'm leading a heart from hand. If LHO pops with Qx, I make 2 heart tricks, although a diamond back, ducked, will force me to play for either A♦ onside or Axx off side and I have to divine blocking the suit.
If RHO wins and puts a diamond on the table, I'm forced to play for the A♦ onside, or diamonds 6-3, with the heart honors split.
Note that you really don't have any security of leading the J♥ from dummy hoping for AQx of hearts onside, as the bad guys will always make 2 hearts, and will have the tempo to lead and establish diamonds.

Yeah, I lead a heart from hand to the jack too. My Mrs. did a lot right this weekend too, only her choice of partners was bad 
I tend to lead fourth best - as opposed to the best suit, the second best suit, or the third best suit for our side

Ok this one's bulletproof, if you take a pessimistic line. The Mrs. won the spade, played ONE club. Then powered the Jack of heart arounds to LHO's queen. At this point, the hands all over. Here's LHO's hand.

Ok this one's bulletproof, if you take a pessimistic line. The Mrs. won the spade, played ONE club. Then powered the Jack of heart arounds to LHO's queen. At this point, the hands all over. Here's LHO's hand.

Not to burst your bubble for the fine play your wife made, but the hand is not over at all. After East wins the Powered.. heart JACK with the queen, he can simply return the passive heart two (of course other player kept the heart 8 or curtains). This defense prevents her from winning nine tricks. If he ducks the heart in dummy, she has to win the heart KING. Now the heart ACE will promote the heart nine to a winner. And if she pops up with the heart Ten in dummy, that wins, but one heart is not enough to see her home. 5♣ + 1♠ + 1♥ + 1♦ is alway and forever only eight tricks.
Now, if she had lead a low heart towards dummy at trick two. :-)
