Scoring: MP

(1NT*) 2 X** 2
(P) ?

* 1NT is 12-14
** X is alerted as lead directing.

We play Capp over weak 1NT, so 2 showed the majors.

Are we worth a game try? Or is pass 100% clear?
Still decidedly intermediate - don't take my guesses as authoritative.

Definitely pass. We have only a little more than a minimum for coming in at the 2 level, and partner could have tried for game himself if he had a good hand. Partner could still be very weak here, and could also have only 3 spades.

Pass seems pretty clear to me. We competed for the partscore and we won. I don't think we have a remarkable hand for the bidding, and I don't believe that there is a low 'ceiling' to show a 2 suited major hand since I didn't make a penalty x. Presumably partner could have made a different call instead of 2 if partner had a max. The double of 2 is mildly encouraging, but hopefully it will help our partner play the hand better.

The auction isn't over and LHO may compete further.

I bid 3, and I was convinced it was a bad bid before it had even been passed out. I think I got seduced by the double in s.

Thought I'd share my folly with the other B/Is.

You don't have enough to bid. Sure there could be a thin game if partner has nothing in diamonds but partner is much better placed than you to choose the right level. If I was going to bid I would choose 3 because it helps partner evaluate and also keeps hearts and even clubs open as possible strains.
