Is it not normal to bid New Minor Forcing with the North hand, checking for a 5-3 fit? Or is this a "9 tricks are easier than 10" situation?

Another one. Isn't this pretty gosh-darn close to the best passed hand NorthGIB could possibly have? If this is not a hand for New Minor Forcing, what is?

The explanation is "retreat from NT -- 5+S; 6-11 total points". I guess I focused too much on "retreat". I was anticipating an undisciplined weak-two-type hand. Most of the South players continued bidding and got to 3NT, so maybe I was just being shy...
