Your partner opens 2S (weak) next hand doubles. Your bid?

Ok, key questions, do you give up partner having club void? Can your partner have both black aces? Do you walk slowly to 6 hoping for double, do you go slowly to try to keep them from saving?

When this hand was played very few blasted 6 which seems the practical bid to me, so what was their strategy? (That is do you have a strategy if 6 wasn't your bid. Would you risk 7 which should roll if no club lead?

Anyway the different approaches (many redoulbed, which can't be right) were taken on this hand. I just wonder what is best. I might consider a club splinter and then cue bid again showing a void..if I was masterminding the hand.

Well I don't like blasting 7 to gamble no club lead, the strong hand is on lead (yeah he might have both aces but he certainly won't have neither). And we could be off the ace of spades anyway.

I would just bid 6 and make them guess. The one tricky thing I might try would be bidding 7 next only if they sac in clubs :P

I don't see any reason to gamble by bidding 7.

I would just bid 6. If I buy it for 6 I am perfectly happy with that, and think I will always get ave+ even if they are going to find the wrong lead vs 7.

If they do bid 7, depending on which suit they bid/who they are/what I think of them etc etc I might bid 7.

If I was trying to be unexploitable, I would plan on bidding 7S regardless of if they had bid 7C or 7H over 6S. That way they still have to guess the lead, and I think I'm in an ave minus spot already that they found the save so it's a good time to gamble.

Honestly I always try to exploit and thus am exploitable in these spots, vs some people I would only bid it over 7H and vs some only over 7C. If they outguess me then I am doing badly, but I feel like I am good at outlevelling them.

Some people feel that bidding 6 pushes them into their save at the 7 level, and again depending on psychology etc this might be a sound concept, but it's certainly unsound in principle because if we give LHO a chance to bid something ever, then RHO can be the one who chooses to save knowing of a big fit or w/e.

Again psychology can make this a sound strategy if they'll always fall for it that you're walking it, but it is not my style. I would never want to risk bidding 4S then 5S and them passing it out, and if I jump to 6 after bidding 4 that would be stupid. You need the auction to time out well for walking it to be right.

On top of that, jumping to 6S is often a semi bluff with 2 or 3 small in a suit and a void, it's rarely a hand with a lock since those hands often try for 7. So it is often wrong for them to save.

If they are weak and not on this level, they'll probably be on the level of "wow I can't bid at the 7 level."

6 seems most practical. The only reason I don't like it would be that partner will get off to the wrong lead when LHO plays 7 of something.

I play diamond bids as lead directing raises here, though I'm not sure 6 would still be a spade raise :P Maybe I'd bid 3 and then 6. Heck, maybe this will keep them out of 7 and leave us in our making 6X!
I once yelled at my partner for discarding the 'wrong' card when he was subjected to a squeeze that I allowed by giving the wrong count with too high a card. Now he's allowed to pitch aces when the opponents have the king in the dummy. At trick 2. When he could have followed suit. And blame me.

You might want to sac after the bid if you think your opponents know you're tricky sometimes and you might have a stiff and first controls in the other suits. :)

I decided to take a shot at 7 with a little less than a blast...I tried 5NT and partner was allowed to play in 6[sp]X which the defense managed to hold to 6 when my RHO led his singleton [di]Q and LHO trumped with his stiff trump. :) I guess you could argue that partner was 70% to hold the [sp]A and I should have bid 7[di] or 7[sp]

Yes, you could argue for playing in your 10 card suit it's true!

I've never bid a grand slam force in my life, but if partner isn't even going to show his ace then I don't see the point.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.
