yeah I though 3NT was wtp, however my (intermediate-advanced) partner assumed I was void in hearts and had the brilliant idea of avoiding the hopeless 3NT and bid 4♦, this landed in a much better contract of 5♦.

simple cross ruff nets 11 tricks, but trying to develop a trick in spades will fail miserably.
