west deals at all vulnerable teams. it goes:

p-p-(2)-??
(3)-

and opps mercifully shut up from now.

I think I would have bid 3 as South and then tried 3NT when N doubled. On a good day it is down one only.

If S passes I think N would double but it's close. If N doubles then I would probably also try 3NT with the South hand.

On the principle that the one short in their suit has to be aggressive, I think second round double as passed hand is in order. A direct overcall opposite a passed hand is a little risky.

On that good day when are down one in 3NT: the clubs were breaking and we beat 3S with 2C, 1D, 2S (ruff) and maybe a heart.

Think I would get to 3NT too. If South decides to (oddly) pass 2S then my auction would be passed out - doubling with the North hand is too crazy for me.

I might have gotten to 5, via 3-X-4-5.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

Iceland lost 8 imps to wales here after it went

p-p-2S-3C
3S-x-p-4H
x-p-p-5C
x

Down 1 and

1D-p-2S-3C
3S-4C-all pass

2S was 8-10 with 6 spades

I think I would probably bid (2s)-3c-(3s)-x-ppp, and I think only the final pass is unclear. Obviously 3n is an option, but Kxx is not so great as a stopper (can't hold up) and there's a decent chance the clubs aren't running. Did I go -730?

Apparently the Welsh North more than just allowed for the Welsh South to have that 3 bid, and all was well.

If my pard had bid 3C, we would have been in five very quickly.

I mean it does look a little odd but opps have opened and semi-invited so it's hard to say he was outside the realm of normality I think, also it's a raise to the 4 level at vulnerable so partner can bid on if he likes.
