We just launched a new Bridge web site that includes an online ACBL card editor - check it out BridgeWinners.com

Feedback appreciated.

Glad to see this site finally up and running.

Perhaps it's possible to convert !C, !D, !H, !S into actual suit symbols?

I'm having a tough time uploading a profile picture, but otherwise it seems like a neat idea, I've already bookmarked it a fave.

Yes the profile pic upload is not yet working, should be fixed by Friday midday.

Suit symbols !C !D etc in ACE (ACBL Card Editor) do convert for the print page (click printer icon next to your saved card). They will also convert for aritcles and comments soon ... just need to figure out the bug in my plugin :D

Thanks for checking it out. Feedback is very useful.

I mentioned this in reply to your rec.games.bridge post, but I'll repeat it hear. I'd really love to be able to import all my CC's from the Lee Edwards ACBL Editor program. It would also be great if there were some way to sync with BBO convention cards.

Not a very good editor -- it is impossible to remove the unused check boxes to add typing. Also there is no blank card for those for whom the templates are inappropriate.

It's obviously designed to be a facsimile of ACBL's official convention card. If you could remove the checkboxes, I don't think it would be acceptable to the ACBL. There are plenty of lines for typing, use the section at the bottom right for anything that doesn't fit elsewhere.

There is a blank card but you have to be a member (free) to see it. Since you need to be a member to create and save cards. We could change that I suppose.

Checkboxes work fine for everyone else - what browser and operating system do you have?

I will look at importing the BBO card ...

I see I missaw the post - yes it is designed to be acceptable for ACBL events thus no removal of checkboxes

There are lots of places to add text. A convention card is designed to be a summary of your system. If you need more space, keep system notes! The opponents do not need so much detail on the card

It looks nice for Standard American or 2/1 players. Here are some ideas to improve it:

The field for the maximum 1NT range is much wider than the field for the minimum 1NT range. If the two are to be unbalanced, I would expect the minimum to be wider than the maximum, most people upgrade (good 14 to 17) but don't downgrade. It's possible you widen it for seat info or vul, but best would probably involve keeping the field lengths equal and having a separate field on the right for seat/vul info.

Extraneous fields: There is a very wide field in the 1 Major box under "Min Length" that does not exist in the ACBL card. I'm not sure what this is for, especially since the 1 Minor box does not have an equivalent field. Similar fields exist before Upside Down count/attitude.

The 2NT fields should be flush center not flush left. In fact, all places that are HCP ranges (1m : 1NT/2NT/3NT; 1M : 3NT; 2-bid ranges, Notrump Overcalls, etc.) should be flush center instead of flush left.

Spacing errors: 1m : 2NT (after 2NT); Weak Jump Overcalls Strong/Intermediate/Weak is formatted oddly with the checkboxes; Notrump Overcalls -> Jump to 2NT should have spacing; Over Opponent's Takeout Double -> New Suit Forcing should have spacing; Slam Conventions spacing makes it hard to tell which checkbox belongs to RKC and which belongs to 1430.

A few checkboxes should be radio buttons: it is nonsensical to play jump to 2NT as both Minors and 2 Lowest.

AFAIK, the ACBL allows changes to the format of the card so long as the relevant information is in substantially the same place on the card. I know of several players who use a spreadsheet to design a card that has no checkboxes, and (again AFAIK) they haven't had any complaints or problems with directors about it.

The ACBL card is severely unfriendly to "non-standard" systems. System notes won't help, unless you just put on the card "see system notes" all over the place.

Also, if I save a convention card with the same names as a previous convention card, it should overwrite. Right now I have 3 copies of the same convention card, as I was editing and coming back here to give feedback.

Also, allow users to delete convention cards.

Delete coming soon.

Also perhaps a box at bottom to either make new or overwrite with overwrite the default?

Thanks so much for the useful feedback

Well, I like having options, so a button for both overwrite and new would be fine for me, but having too many options can overwhelm/confuse casual users. Tradeoffs in user interface design.

There should be a way for two or more users to share a convention card. It would also be nice if the creator of the card could control permissions for the card (ie. view, edit). Since the already has a social networking element this seems like a logical functionality.

These are GREAT suggestions ... keep them coming

The card now overwrites (there is a "make a copy" button at the bottom if you want to work on a new copy)

the NT ranges now center

more coming soon like delete ... and social media stuff (a future)

...is sufficient to keep me from ever using it.

I've never heard a suggestion that the ACBL disallowed or even discouraged the removal of unused checkboxes if the space was needed for more details, or even just for readability (cf. the fat free card and the yellow card.)
