I made a mistake by covering the J on the opening lead (with a lot of field coverage, which was a sad commentary), but why does GIB lead 3 from 983? The only thing GIB's convention document says about defense is: "Carding is 3/5, with what appears to be standard count and attitude signals. Gib does falsecard." So, GIC leads 3/5 against both suits and NT?

I have seen GIB lead 4th at suits very often. I think it's closer to random carding than anything else.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.
