Thanks peachy for this report. Do you recall what GIB product you were using when you saw this explanation?

It passed another splinter for me yesterday in a Robot Rebate tourney. It was fun playing in Ax opposite x at the 4 level. Luckily we were not vul, so only down 250.

I'm sorry about GIB passing all these splinters! The problem was actually with the explanation that described the bids as splinters. Those explanations were incorrect -- the bids were natural. The explanations are now fixed, so next time you are thinking of splintering in an uncommon auction please check the explanation to make sure that the bid is still explained as a splinter.

Thanks to everyone who posted about this, and sorry for all of the ridiculous contracts you may have played.

Hmm. In all the auctions we've seen listed, I think splinter is the correct interpretation of the bid. When it passed me the other day, I intended the bid as a splinter, and I was glad that GIB "agreed" with me. Do we really need these bids to be natural?

Thanks Ari for fixing the bug. However, I do think the explanation should have been "splinter", but as long as the bid and explanation match, np.

I haven't looked at this thread until now, you asked me what GIB product I was using. Sorry, not sure I understand the question. I was playing in a robot tournament.

Ari, can you maybe write a script that automatically checks all the explanations for correctness? (At least their suit lengths?) I would think you would find more errors.

Here is another one that looks incorrect:
1H (X) 2H (X)
is described as responsive, including 4 spades. The last time it came up GIB had 2155.
"Are you saying that LTC merits a more respectful dismissal?"

Barmar: Splinter is probably better than natural for many of these bids, but what's most important is that the explanations are consistent with what GIB plays! If you post some specific splinter auctions I can try to add rules back in for them.

Cherdano: That's a good idea. GIB often makes single-card deviation from it's shape when simulating, but a deviation of 2 or more cards indicates a real error.
