Surprised by these answers...I don't see how it would be possible to just make a dumb mistake with 15 mins per play/bid. Every mistake I made would just be based on a lack of knowledge/ability of the game, it wouldn't be a blunder. IMO bridge is a game of not blundering at all levels. Assuming I also never got tired from all the thinking then I think I would have a huge edge over anyone just based on that.

On the other hand if I actually got fatigued by the thinking it would make no difference at all since I wouldn't actually spend 15 mins on everything.

Assuming some magic "pause" where I get 15 minutes, and other people get nothing, plus I get a pad and pencil to fill in hands? Among the best in the world. My biggest bridge blunders are when I just play without thinking or analyzing the hands, or don't pay enough attention to the meticulous carding my partner is providing. I can figure stuff out, though, given enough time and information.

Subquestion: What made you ask the question?

Would there be some sort of visual indication on the board to tell me which deals actually merited 15 minutes per play?
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Ah yes, now that would make a big difference to my game.

Wasting mental effort on hands where everything breaks kindly and all cards are on side is quite tiring in a long match. Forgetting to think hard about bad breaks and then finding out trumps are 5-0 is immediately costing.

I think I would play quite a bit better than I do now.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

If the play is that slow, I would probably have forgotten what card I player 2 tricks back, because it could have been 2 hours ago.

Even if this means 15 minutes/board, I don't know if the extra time you have to concentrate does not cost more at the end of the round than you win during the round.

Yeah it seems just reading through this thread you already forgot its poll question :) :D

Anyway, for me it wouldn't make a big difference because I am already taking 15 minutes for every play.

In bidding the extra time would not help me much.

As for declaring and defending using paper and pencil and all that extra time would help me a lot. No more forgetting the spot cards. No more getting confused trying to crasp all the information. No more lapses in concentration. And being able to write cards down to a paper would help visualisation a lot. Almost like comparing playing chess blind vs seeing the board and pieces.

I don't think 15 minutes for each play would help, but actually taking the time I have would make a difference. I often play too fast and then realize I have erred. So taking a few seconds more could make a difference for me. I wouldn't have the patience to write down every card, it would change the game enough for me as to make it no longer enjoyable. Doing it as an exercise though, could help with developing better play and defense. I do notice that the top players play far slower than I do, or than is even allowed in regional events, so using the time one needs obviously helps with better play.

How much more of the world's habitat and food supply for animals do we plan on destroying. How many more wetlands are we going to drain, fill, and build on? How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?

but mostly I'd just fall asleep and drool on the table.

What does your the falling asleep and drooling have to do with getting all this extra time.

I have significant difficulties with memory and sustained attention span. So, being able to write down the cards played and having some time to think would be quite beneficial for me.
Having a pair of Luis' Xray/ see-through sun glasses would also be helpful.

BTW: may I also have a Taser to use on all the people that stand near the table and won't shut up while I'm trying to think ("trying" being the operative word)?

Is that true ? Some of the best players I watched are very fast. I only see one truly world class player in action live (Balicki).
