Funny hand from today's club game

The hands are rotated so partner and I are east-west. Partner dealt, and the auction was:

3♣-X-3♥-4♠
All pass

North's takeout double probably wouldn't be everyone's choice. But the contract has the virtue of being unbeatable! Next to a bottom board for us (one table bid 3NT and made +1).

but 3NT should be more popular IMO, both double and 3♦ overcalls should get 3NT from south.

Anyway well done avoiding the club lead :), curiously if you move ♣Q to west 4♠ makes 11 tricks against any defence, you just have to throw west in with ♣9 before running the diamonds :P

Maybe, but if they are bad enough to bid this way they're likely bad enough to ruff the CA lead. Since you already have almost a zero for defending 4S making, if you knew all the hands it would probably be worth it to lead the CA and hope they mess up.

You'd think this. But partner did lead the ace of clubs, and declarer discarded a heart from dummy. So good declarer play at least. I guess when you play in this partnership, you learn some technique for playing 4-2 fits. ;)
