Well IMO, 3=10, 1N=9, Pass=6, 2=3. Others clearly disagree strongly, though.

I would Pass.

I have a reasonable amount of sympathy for 2C.

I have some sympathy for 3C (because the upside is so big) even though I consider it a weird bid.

I have no sympathy for 1NT (too weird with this distribution).

For those who pass, how important is it that this is an SAYC or 2/1 question? If opponents were playing Acol with 4-card majors and a weak NT, in which 1 always shows at least 4 and quite often 5 if hands with 4M + 4 are opened 1M or 1N, would this make any difference to your vote?

Np Frederick, hope you are still laughing after it makes because your trumps aren't good enough to draw his.

As though there is no other way to take tricks other than drawing declarer's trumps...

Mel Colchamiro's rule of 9...add # trump, # honors including T, level of contract and if 9 pass.

6 + 1 + 1 = 8...so bid something.

Ok, it's just a rule of thumb and who knows what Mel would do on this hand anyway, but I like 2C because

pass is a close call and pretty unilateral and I'm not embarrassed to mention Kxxx
and because I have a rebid for any of partner's further calls.

I thought this was the rule of 10 or the rule of 12 since leading 4th best has apparently become passe :)

My guess would be no (or not in the way you might think). If opener has 3 diamonds he will never sit for 1D-X; the opponents will probably flee to their heart fit. I don't think we will be happy if LHO runs to 1H and RHO raises.

IMO opener's diamond length makes the pass more attractive. It makes it more likely that he will be forced to play 1D-X.

GIB and MACPHEE obviously have not seen the random T/O doubles advocated herein. 3C is much too dangerous, with that in mind.

GIB had the benefit of knowing that his twin brother had made the takeout double, so it wasn't as random as it might otherwise be :-)

Then, how do I transfer this thread to the GIB section, in the hope that GIB will be modified to pass instead of making "a weird bid"?

I suspect it is making, not because of trump quality, but merely because the hand is in the forum ;)
