really ten spades for them? Not much respect for their bidding judgement.

I would pass first time around and bid 4♥ the second time around. I play 2NT as scrambling in this auction. But even if I did not, when as a passed hand, partner is doubling, I think he has a stiff most of time.

a stiff!? where are all the ♠?

We might not have much on the line with this hand, but I feel that on most hands where you make some invite if you have the methods (leb) there are too many hands partner will not bid game that allow game to make. Even better is his values are located in D is not unreasonable. It will be difficult for them to appreciate a minimum hand that fits, we can.

[P] - P  - [2♠] - ?
do you come in here? if so, how?
say you do not:
[P] - P  - [2♠] - P
[P] - X --  [P] -- ?
now what?
IMO,
  • Immediately over RHO's 2♠, _X = 10, _P = 6, 3♥ = 5.
  • When partner protects with _X, then 4♥ = 10, 3♥ = 5.

Lebesohl seems really bad here, 2NT is more useful as 2 suits. However, we can still bid 2NT followed by 3H to show game interest in hearts.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

I think it's likely we'll have to make a decision over 3♠ on this hand.

Partner will have the decision, if 3H described this hand fairly well.

don't you mean we can still bid 2NT followed by 3H with a really bad hand with hearts, therefore 3H shows a little something? or are you going to bid 4♥ over 3♦ from partner?
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

This came up a few weeks ago and I heard three interpretations for 2N in response to a balancing x: Scrambling, Lebensohl ( but a higher range for 3x) and even natural were answers.

I agree that scrambling is the best application.
