Yes Fluffy, I would have bid 3H first and then run to 3S if doubled.

Yeah that would had been great, but if the hand came back with 3NT or X->4♣ I don't know if I'd be happy.

Surely you play the same methods over 2NT as you do 1NT, so I would have done what ever it is that shows major over 2N. Over this double, normally negative, I pass.

I play X as majors and natural overcalls.

EDIT: Why should some one play the same methods over 1N and 2N?

4♥ is totally canonical and I consider it a complete irreponsibility not to bid it. Better the right strain 1 level higher than a possible blood bath 1 level lower :)

Flufster, how about (2NT) 3NT overcall? :)

yeah I though so also, but sounds like major + minor or something like to me.

The bid that preempts the more after 2NT opening is 3x, and you are likelly doing so with natural overcalls, that's why playing the same methods as you do over 1NT is wrong.

Playing the double conventional is possible I guess.

I just mentioned it because I think I've seen somewhere a convention like "NT over NT = majors".

I play a method called "think about what you're going to lead". It's so rarely right to bid over an enemy 2NT opening that I don't think it''s worth the effort of forming an agreement and remembering it.

I play a method called "don't worry about what to lead". It's so rarely right to be on lead with a six-six hand that I don't think it is worth the effort of deciding in advance what to lead.

fwiw i have no agreements with anyone about these bids. obv if dbl or 3♣ shows majors, thats the best, but 3♠ then pass seems totally reasonable here.

I bid 4♥ wich was worse than 3♠, partner had

I got tapped from the start and ended up conceding 2♠, 3♥ and 1♣ for -800, 3♠ goes -500 only.

Team mates got a disaster failing to tap declarer at every opportunity in 4♥X for +200 only. Wich is awful given that they are cold for 6NT/7♣/7♦

Its not common that you will want to climb in over a 2N opening, but a seasoned partnership will have agreements.

I think Multi-Landy is reasonable.

I like to use my 1NT defence also against 2NT or 3NT (whether gambling or not). If you play penalty doubles of 1NT then double with single suited minor or something.

On the given problem I would always bid 4♥ though I don't expect it to be right a lot more than 50% of the time.
