Scoring: IMP

We bid to 7C which looks fair, but went off on a heart lead. 7NT is 100% on any lead.

Our bidding was:-

1S - 2C (nat GF or 3 card limit raise)
2S (nat extras) - 3C (normal, i.e. extras clubs and confirms 2C was nat G)
4C (nat not RKC) - 4D
4NT - 5S
5NT - 6C
7C

Any reasonable way to get to the top spot?

I don't think so, 7NT is better than 7 only because south has J, and north won't ever know it.

Only if south decides to raise is pades he will get a full view or noth's hand and maybe decide the best gran (or even 7 wich is maybe better than 7 also)

I'll make an attempt.
Why 4C over 3C if it is not RKC in a GF auction.
All that "space" between 3C and 4C was wasted.
Better to cuebid over 3C:

1S - 2C!
2S - 3C
3H - 4C!
4D - 4S!
4NT - 5D!
5S - 7NT ( counting 4s, 1h, 1d, 7c = thinking 10 cds combined Clubs )

3H = Ht Ctrl, denies Diam Ctrl
4C! = RKC for Cl in GF auction
4D = 0 or 3
4S! = 2nd step, specific K-ask; 4H would have been Q-ask
       ( all key cards accounted for as well as Q )
4NT = K; NT ( "cheapest" reply here ) shows K of asking suit
5D = 2nd specific K ask; perhaps partner has the K as well for 13 tricks
5S = denies K but have Q if that will help

Does 3 even agree clubs, how do you bid something like AKTxxx AKJ xxx x?

Anyway, my auction also ends in 7 :).

I might get to 7S if opener rebids spades strongly... might show some sort of raise on the stiff J. Not as good as 7NT but definitely a decent contract.
I once yelled at my partner for discarding the 'wrong' card when he was subjected to a squeeze that I allowed by giving the wrong count with too high a card. Now he's allowed to pitch aces when the opponents have the king in the dummy. At trick 2. When he could have followed suit. And blame me.

wank, I hear ya. I once bid a grand on this trump suit:

AKQJ8x

x

OF COURSE the suit broke 5-1 and 7NT was cold :)

I was at the other end of the same hand (but it was AKQ7th opp stiff J and 5 to the T)! And teammates found the correct grand (a better trump suit or 7NT both worked) :)
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.
