3 as no amount of spades or notrump fits. It is arguably not even good enough to jump shift with the values so badly placed (you don't have to jump shift just because you have 19) but that would just give me more bidding problems anyway so I'd rather get everything off my chest.

Now I wait for everyone to come out of the woods with their artificial 2NT rebids...

Without any special gadgets, I agree that 3 stands out as the best available choice.

3 for me. Dislike it least. Jump shift is sick.

2, even if not forcing, is not a bad option. If partner passes, 2 may be a decent spot.

Not as forcing but I expect partner to pass very rarely (playing 2 as 2+). If he bids 2/2 it looks like a raise to 4. If partner has 5+s I will get raised opposite 8+. If partner has a weak hand with s I don't want to be too agressive and force to game. Hopefully 2 will buy me some time to figure out what partner has and make a decision based on that.

Only when partner has a weak hand with clubs and short spades will I get to play here, which I don't think is very common. In that case 2 should be a decent contract if the opponents don't balance.

2N artificial GF

But if that's not available, I'll bid 2N natural as an almost GF.

A little too strong for this imo

sounds like 2NT wtp, but agree with straube, if you don't play this as forcing it still fits the hand very well, specially helps towards finding your 5-3 heart fit.

Bidding 3 with this makes me wonder how you will show 6-5 blacks before getting too high.

Yeah, I mean I'd whip out 2NT artificial GF. But, 2 still seems reasonable (especially if sound openings) because the spade suit quality is so poor.

I open a french 2.

Ok not really. I would bid 3 barring any gadgets - any other bid will create other problems so I just want to be in some game. Who knows, maybe we'll have a good auction to slam after that as well. The suit quality is too terrible to consider 3 imo and you'll get to many wrong games if 3NT or 4 or even 5 is the spot which is likely given our suit quality.

3. Have to force to game. 2 is wimpy, 3 is terrible.

Last year I was playing against a pair that didn't alert a non-forcing 1S - 1NT - 3C. My partner at the time thought this was reasonable since (according to him) all good pairs play some kind of gazilli.

So let me use that argument to post: 2C WTP.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

Thanks to all the replies.

It seems so far 3C got the most vote (7 times) followed by 3S (6 times).

Pard's actual hand is:

Ax
Txxx
KTxx
Axx

So if you bid 3C or some GF bid then you may end up in slam, which will
make (S 2-3 split, both HQ and CQ onside).

If you bid NF 2C/2N/3S, you may endup in game.

Well come on, if you bid 6 you don't need 3-2 spades, heart finesse, and club finesse. You need something more like 3-2 spades, and either the heart queen singleton or doubleton or third or the club finesse or a heart or club lead.

Sorry, what I meant is that the actual opponents card layout is S 2-3 and both Q
on side, so the slam will always make if you bid it. Of course we don't need all of
the above to make 6S.

3NT showing six spades and game values after an f1 NT would probably get us to a spade slam also. It might be a slight overbid with that opening hand, but 3NT has no better use for us, so it is available.
