Was this ever Meckwell vs NT?

Hi all,

Some local players play what they call Meckwell, vs. NT:
X = one minor, or some rare freaky types
2C = majors, clubs >= diamonds
2D = majors, diamonds > clubs
2H/S = natural

These days Meckwell is
X = 1 minor or both majors
2C/D = that and a major
2M = natural

from the vast majority of sources I've heard.

I am interested to know if Meckwell was originally as these players
think, or if it a regional myth or what...

Could it be that the first scheme is for IMPs and the second for MPs? Many people over here play that the major anchor suit must be known at IMPs but not at MPs.
