Rather than hijack Blackshoe's string:

Suppose my sticky fingers pull out 1H, when I meant 1C --true mechanical error, not in dispute. My LHO passes before I catch the mistake. I say "stop", before partner can act, and call the TD.

TD lets me change my opening bid to 1C, and then LHO overcalls 1D. My contention is that even the fact that LHO did not have a hand which could bid 2D over 1H is authorized information to RHO.

Is this correct?

Yes. See Law 25A4.

Yeh, I transposed the position of the word "only" in 25A4, resulting in dumb question.

When the replacement call by LHO is a double, there could be serious opening lead problems for the original fumbler --who now isn't allowed to know that LHO has a T/O of 1C, but not of 1H.

Seems like a fairly ordinary UI situation.
