 A bit confused here...

Both not vulnerable, West dealer.

Bidding goes:
P, 1♥, 1♠, ?

I am South with:
Scoring: IMP

What to bid?

Obviously by the Topic Title it concerns the use of splinters. I bid 3♠, and, initially everyone at the table said it was not a splinter, then that splinters were not "ON" after interference.

A bit of online research has shown that the correct answer is NEVER & ALWAYS. <_<
Which is it?

Oh yes...if they are "ON" do you bid the splinter or just jump to RKC?

splinters are on in their suit(s). they are off in other suits. at least this is the way I like it and most people here.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

A lot of people play fit jumps in unbid suits after interference if I am not mistaken. In the opponents' suit I would take a jump as splinter, like here.

I agree that this is better, but certainly without any discussion, standard is to play splinters are still on in other suits.

Hi Masse.

I prefer to play 3♠ is definitely a splinter here. As others say, some sort of fit bids may be better in other suits, but splinters work fine too. The general answer is yes, splinters still apply after interference.

The other thing I'd like to say is this:
You don't want to bid RKC with a void, so you should forget about that as an option on this hand. Partner's response will be more or less meaningless, given you don't know whether his keycards are useful or not. He could easily have the ace of spades, which doesn't help you at all. In these auctions, it's better to cuebid and/or to let partner to bid Keycard, so that you can show that you have a void if you so wish.

I like 3S!-jump as a splinter as long as it isn't confused with a stop-ask for 3NT.

There is another way to show your void-splinter if you use Meckwell's gadget when Hts are trump:
4S! = RKC for Hts
4NT! = Voidwood for Hts, excluding Sp Ace

1H - ( 1S ) - 3C! ( fit-showing-jump ) - ( p )
3D - ( p ) - 4NT!

2♠=general Q many now play as LR+
3♠=splinter
4♠=exclusion

The last one is probably what to use as you can force to slam

Great post.

This is how the forum can really help you with this type of question. Great post , great question. I will let the good players, not me, answer your question but I thought this was good one and hope to see more of this type.

IMO, jump in their suit is still a splinter - don't really have a sensible use for the call other than that in my mind. Jumps in other suits are open to agreement - but again IMO - unless you've actually agreed fit jumps or whatever, I'd personally take the default to be still a splinter - what else would it mean that you hadn't agreed?!

yep

Alternatively 2S to see how partner responds, then 4S exclusion. But, if worried that 4S would not still be exclusion if Opener rebids 4H, then you have a problem.
