Scoring: IMP

Hello, this is the twenty-sixth thread in the big poll. Please provide the most probable result after East opens 1 and you either

a) pass
b) double
c) bid 2.

Please do a cross imp result like:

a-b:
a-c:
b-c:

(a-c means the imps a wins over c)

Thanks :) Please try to do all 30 hands also :)

a: 1, defense has 7 tricks but the lead will blow one, -90
b: Afraid it will go 2-3, -300
c: 2, +110

a: 1-P-1N-P-2N-A/P. North has a tough lead; I would go with a diamond. Declarer wins and plays spade to jack, spade to king and ace. South switches to heart to the jack and queen. North continues diamonds (south encouraged trick one) and declarer wins and clears spades. Two diamonds are cashed, then a low heart won by declarer's king. Declarer plays a club up, but north hops and three hearts are cashed. Four down, +200.
b: 1-X-P-1N-A/P. Spades are lead and continued. Hearts are played, west winning eventually and playing a diamond over. Defense takes two diamonds, four spades, and a heart. Down one, -100.
c: 1-2-P-P-X-P-2-3-A/P. Seems like down one. -100.

a-b = 7 IMPs (300)
a-c = 7 IMPs (300)
b-c = 0 IMPs

I'm continuing my trend of responding on a lot of weak hands where some people might pass. I think this is usually the right strategy when NV, and it has been a huge winner on a number of previous boards in this set. Doesn't work too well this time though.

Diversity is good for the large poll so its fine :(. I ain't reopning the 1-2, but I dunno if I would really.

Bidding when RHO is stronger than he normally is has to be a big winner in the long run. But its related with this deal.

A: -80
B: 2 +300
C: -100 in 3 (north will raise sooner or later).

A-B = -9 IMPs
A-C = 1 IMPs
B-C = 9 IMPs

I don't understand your result B. Who is playing 2, and how is it +300? If N/S are playing 2 then it's minus 300. If E/W are playing 2, they are NV and it's not down six, and I don't really see who's going to double it.

A 1 all pass -70
B 1 X pass 2 (?) X pass 2 pass pass 3 all pass -2(?) -200
C 1 2 pass pass X pass 2 all pass +50

AB +130 +4
AC -120 -3
BC -250 -6

I honestly caannot judge B, so this is a real wild guess. But I really dislike Adams 1 NT suggestion. No stopper, not enough point opposite a shortness had been too much downside for me. But okay, it had worked better here..
Kind Regards

Roland

a: I play NF 1NT Bidding goes 1S (p) 1NT all pass
Opening lead is a diamond. Dummy wins and leads S to Jack.
Now, I have a problem. I hope I would switch to a club (Jack from dummy) but I may be saying this because I see all 4 hands. In any case, let me assume 5 tricks for E/W. +100 for N/S
b: agree with awm; -100 to N/S
c: 1S (2H) pass (pass); Dbl (pass) 2S all pass; makes on SA opening lead;
-110 to N/S

a-b = 5 IMPs (+200) to N/S
a-c = 5 IMPs (+210) to N/S
b-c = 0 IMPs (---)

a. What awm said
+200
b. 1 X p 1NT
ppp
I really think east will lead a heart not a spade with his lousy spades, and the auction suggesting the hearts are on his left. It seems safe and who would visualize NS with an 8 card fit? After that I think NS can be set but it's too hard.
+90
c. 1 2 p p
X p 2 3
X ppp
-200

a-b: +3
a-c: +9
b-c: +7

Jack playing 2001 BWS on championship setting says:

a 1se+1 -110
b 2se= -110
c 2se= -110

a-b 0
a-c 0
b-c 0

a

1-p-p-p

The opening lead blows a trick, so NS -80

b

1-X-p-2
p-p-p

In an inelegant 3-2 fit, NS gets a good layout to lose "only" -300

c

1-2-p-p
X-p-2-p
p-p

East, with more information, guesses better, so:

a-b -6IMP
a-c 1IMP
b-c -5IMP
