We are looking at how to bid after interference to stayman.
We play promisory stayman and could be garbage.
We would like to keep double as penalty if at all possible.
to get a simple treatment I have got this far.
pass = below invitiational values
X = 2 stops in ops suit and inv + points
2NT = 1 stop in ops suit and inv points
2 level bids are invites
3 level bids are GF
this seems to be ok except when the interference is 2S. Any suggestions on this or a different simple treatment?

If Garbage Stayman is possible then the 1NT bidder can not make game-forcing bids.
I would devote time to learning a defense to a double of stayman, but just play naturally to suit bids.
FWIW, here's my counter-defense to stayman doubled:
(1) Bids have their previous meaning, but deny a club stop
(2) Pass initially shows a club stop
then
i. Rdbl is Stayman (either garbage or game forcing)
ii. 2♦ shows five diamonds, and a 4 card major, invitational
iii. 2♥/♠ shows 4+ cards and is invitational
(3) Rdbl is a suggestion to play
then
i. 2♣ = garbage stayman (can be passed)
ii. 2♥/♠ = 5M4oM, signoff
iii. 2NT = invitational with a 4 card major

I am confused. Is the auction
1NT-(p)-2♣-(2♠)
?
Then it is opener's turn, but he can't have "below invitational values". He can be min or max.

The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

Sorry, Opener is silenced by the garbage stayman option
1NT - (P) - 2♣ - (2♠)
P - (P) - ???
1NT - (P) - 2♣ - (2♠)
P - (P) - ???

Hi,
assuming garbage stayman means, if 2C is weak, than responder is 4-4 in the majors,
I would suggest, that X by opener in the seq.
1NT - (Pass) - 2C - (2S)
X - ...
is for take out.
If responder is weak, than you will have at least 6 trumps, i.e. they will have at least a
7 card fit, and asumming 1NT is at leats 15-17, you will still have half of the deck.
But if you want X for penalty, i.e. showing at least 4 cards, that should work as well,
if you hit the weak responder, than ... how may trumps do you have?
With kind regards
Marlowe
