Hi hi

Dec 22, 3pm EST, most BBO yellows will be playing in a 14 board MP Indiv (1 board per round).

Come kibitz and join the fun! How?

Predict who will be 1st - 5th for a chance at some fabulous (okay, little) gifts.
So to join, just reply to this thread, and post in this format by Dec 21st 2009 23:59pm EST (NY time).

1st: (Enter your pick)
2nd: (Enter our pick)
3rd: (Enter your pick)
4th: (Enter your pick)
5th: (Enter your pick)

BBO Lobby news article on the contest:

http://webutil.bridg...etch.php?id=188

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tRE...viG_oWPVg&gid=0
This google spreadsheet should list your pick, as posted in this thread. If it doesn't, or if you'd edited your picks and post, please try to inform any yellow so the spreadsheet can be updated.

Since Forum account name is likely to be your BBO name, that's what we'll assume your BBO name is unless you state otherwise in your post. Not terribly important unless you win and we need to try to give you a prize.

--------------------
This isn't the first year this tourney has been held, so it's starting to be a tradition. To help you with your prediction, Ben (Inquiry on BBO) used BridgeBrowser (talk to sfbp for info on this) software to figure out the results of the previous, more casual tourneys. Here're top 10 from the past events.

2006 (9 board MP)
pinochio 72.22
lauguill 63.88 (non yellow sub)
fred 61.11
borko 61.11
beky 58.33
skrshawk 56.94
walddk2 55.55
nafiz 51.38
wojela 51.38
uday 48.61

2007 (12 board MP)
Walddk2 76.66
tootsie215 72.5
oosmanb 60.83 (non yellow sub)
reisig 60.83
ritong 60.83
borko 55
desikk 54.16
nickf 54.16
uday 53.33
acbl 52.5

2008 (12 board MP)
inquiry 43.32
gerardo 33
reisig 32.4
Nafiz 23.4
molvam 23.16
arigun 15
desikk 13.56
dan_ehh 13.56 (non yellow sub)
Jacki 13.2
Joey 8.76

Apart from this, feel free to use whatever else you'd like to predict the standings.
BBO's Myhands records page: http://www.bridgebas...hands/index.php
Sfbp's bridgebrowser of course (data is probably not up to date)
WBF records for some of the yellows, etc.

---------------------
Also, here's the list of yellows who are currently signed up for the tourney. This doesn't mean they will play of course, just that they've signed up, so it's likely they will play. This part will be updated as things change. (Tourney is currently created as a "Free tourney" by Georgi. Go to free tourney area and see if you can spot it).

I'll go with a sleeper pick: Uday.

Uday is not well known for being a very good player because he is much more well known for his work with BBO, but he is definitely very strong and could easily win this (sure fred is better but the edge is smaller than people would think, and uday will play high variance going all out for the win in the end whereas tbh I think fred wouldn't care that much, and would be concerned about not ruining his partner's possibly good games). If just betting on a win rather than a high finish, this might even give uday the edge over fred.

Ofc there are many other world class yellows, I won't mention them all but I will say I used to play quite a bit on BBO with ritong and he is legit a great player, and even better for an indy! Old fashioned bidding combined with not dropping tricks and giving clear signals. Best way to play an indy.

Wow, some tough choices here, but I think overall Henri (Ritong) is my best bet.

My top 5:

1. Ritong
2. Fred
3. Uday
4. Reisig
5. Gerben

EDITED (Roland won't be playing.)

some others came close, but I'll try this =)

1. dkgrab
2. uday
3. fred
4. ritong
5. reisig
Still decidedly intermediate - don't take my guesses as authoritative.
