Out of idle curiosity, I decided to score all the pundits in this contest to see whose guesses were, overall, the 'best'.

I did this by determining the difference in finishing rank among the yellows participating in the tournament with the rankings of the pundits in this thread.

The yellow rankings in the tournament were assessed as follows:

Cascade: 1
Chas_P: 2
Gerardo: 3
Desikk: 4
Sheri : 5
Nickf: 7
Uday: 7
Joey: 7
Arigun: 9
Inquiry: 10.5
Babela: 10.5
Nyrolf: 12.5
Ritong: 12.5
Fred: 14
Nafiz: 15.5
Reisig: 15.5
Macaw: 17
Sybarra: 18
Rain: 19
Dkgrab: 20
Jackie: 22
Tootsie215: 22
Pelepele: 22
Borko: 24
Gerben42: 25.5
Georgi: 25.5
Showle: 27
Gitelwoman: 28

For example, 'Molly111' selected

1. Reisig (Finished in position 15.5. Difference between 15.5 and 1 = 14.5)
2. Fred (Finished in position 14. Difference between 14 and 2 = 12)
3. Cascade (Finished in position 1. Difference between 1 and 3 = 2)
4. Uday (Finished in position 7. Difference between 7 and 4 = 3)
5. Inquiry (Finished in posistion 10.5. Difference between 10.5 and 5 = 5.5)

Total difference between Molly's selection and actual finishing positions is 14.5 + 12 + 2 + 3 + 5.5 = 37)

If someone had managed to actually select the top 5 in exactly the right order, they would have a score by this method of zero. Smaller scores are better.

If a pundit selected a player who did not actually play in the tournament, I regarded that player as having finished 29th.

After all that, here are the top 20 prognosticators and their scores:

Molly111: 37
queenofhea: 38
Jlall: 39
rogerclee: 41
Echognome: 43
Mbodell: 44.5
jdaming: 44.5
martujes: 44.5
gwnn: 44.5
bid_em_up: 46.5
sallyally: 47
hallway: 47.5
Jim_Dandy: 48.5
Tcyk: 51
vuroth: 51
andyboa1: 51
davids: 51
Ethel: 52
onoway: 54
peachy: 54.5

Incidentally, it seems that Ethel's entry has been missed on the spreadsheet - and it would seem (s)he is eligible for a prize for picking Sheri placing 5th.

No idea how I missed Ethel's entry in spreadsheet - did it get merged from somewhere? But she'll also win the prize. I'll amend the list of winners.
