Scoring: IMP

Assuming no special agreements or system-restriction regulations, do you open and if so what?

You don't list 4S on your poll? Definitely like that better than either 2S or 3S.

Yea, looks like an obvious 4 to me. I'm not concerned with making so much as keeping the opponents out of their heart game/slam.

Yes wth, 2 and 3 get 0, 1 gets a little, and pass and 4 get fair scores depending on your preference.

If I'm too lazy to look at the spots or check the vulnerability or evaluate the most likely bids, surely I'm too lazy to open this hand.

I open 1S in ACBL as an agreement to open less than 8 HCP is disallowed. (sic)

It was not in the poll, so I thought it was very bad. Non-vuln I would open 4S. I think I have too much offense to open 2/3S.

  • I don't know the spots or vulnerability.
  • Sorry I omitted 4 from the list of options.
  • I should also have listed "Other".
  • Unfortunately, I can't add these retrospectively; but please say if you prefer another option to those on the list.
  • I re-posted this hand because it is the subject of argument in a laws forum. Please comment there on the legality of opening this hand at the one-level.

Seems like a 4 bid to me. No one's perfect.

Or perhaps 3 + some nr. of diamonds, if you like that sort of stuff.
