5 in all positions, all vulnerabilities, all forms of scoring.

if i am depressed for some reason and pessimistic about my life in general, i might open 4 but i really don't think that's a great idea.

4♦ or 5♦ depending on style. I think it is borderline with a random p, but if we have an opportunity to discuss this before playing I prefer this to be a 5♦ opening.

I'm not opening this 5♦ ever r/w. Its too easy for it to go x -AP. 4♦ is enough there.

4th I'm not opening this 5♦. I think that is kind of stupid.

1/2/3 I'm OK with 5♦, but I could be talked into 1♦ in 2nd.

I open 1♦, too many losers and too much defense for 5♦ here.

1♦, because you can't play 3N (or 4♠) after opening 5♦.

Because opps will be put to a difficult decision. Not saying that it has no disadvantages, just trying to answer your question.

I agree with phil that my "all seats, all forms of scoring" was a little over the top, but I'd definitely open 5♦ almost always.

I would hate 4 Diamond. I try 5 Diamond too, 1 Diamond close second choice.
Kind Regards

Can you give us an example of an auction where you'd pass 3NT or 4♠ after opening 1♦?
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

 Amen Fluffy. Little known basic rule. Walk the dog against weaker players. Preempt better players. Holds for other types of hands as well. In short, if they are good: "makem guess". If they are bad, "makem figure it out".

The hand you've been waiting for so long - Diamond loses forever, at least to hearts :(

The bidding just went like the stock market. Overbidding like madness and when people start to realize the hand isn't worth the contract, the reality came crashing down

I wouldn't even tell you what position I was in, lol

Scoring: IMP

W N E S
- 5♦ 5♥ 6♦
6♥ 7♦ X P
P P

lead ♠A
7♦xN-4

5♦ was a good bid but this is not universally accepted as you have seen.

Every other bid was bad, there will be little or no controversy about this.
edit: this is not to say every bid is equally bad but I did not want to be very explicit. In particular
Spoiler

Well the double of 7♦ was good but that is technically not a bid.
