We must get both suits across and starting with 4♣ seems the most sensible approach.
Traditionally, for the Majors, we can always rip partner's 4♠ to 5D. Then if it's not a morning match, partner will get the gig.

dwayne's bid is probably best, but if you plan on pulling 4S to 5D anyway, why not double first? at least that way partner has a chance either bid hearts or to leave the x in (tho we might hate that, it still could be right)

I think X is really poor, Luke. What are you going to do if pd bids 4S?
Isn't 5D or 5H now a cue bid agreeing S?
What about Leaping Michaels? 4C is also ok if you pull 4S to 5D

I'm not used to play leaping Michaels, so in my case 4♣ would mean 55+M, 4NT 55+ ♦ and ♥ usually. So it seems quite obvious to bid 4NT...
You say when pulling partner's 4♠ to 5♦ after a Dbl is control, but imo it would mean the same after 4♣ which promissed both Majors...
But I agree that Dbl is quite poor. You better have 4-4 in the Majors or so, looking for some contract. Here you know you want to play ♦ or ♥, so show them.
Leaping michaels seems like the best idea to play. 4♦ and show some slam interest in your rebid.

ok.. if x then 5D over 4S agrees spades, x is wrong.. it never entered my mind it might be that.. i'm used to playing that an x then bid shows a very good hand.. whether this one fits that criteria or not, i don't know... up to you, but it does have a plethora of zar points

Double is a bad bid because partner suppose to leave it with many many hands that you wouldnt want him to.

partner might pass 3c with this (add some hcp if you need more) 3c will probebly make while 7D is cold for our side.

The key feature of this hand isn't the red suits, but the spade void. Diamonds are self-standing, so there's not need to ask pard for a preference. I don't see any way to bid this hand scientifically (except if you play (3♣)-4NT now as a specific ace-ask). I can do three things:
a ) Bid 6♦ right away, trying to attract a 6♠/7♣ bid to double it.
b ) Bid 5♦ in a pessimistic mood. Not good if they bid 6♣, as I'm left with the last guess.
c ) Bid 3♦, hoping to get a support from partner to start showing controls.
Choosing plan a ) b ) or c ) depends more on what I had for lunch than their technical merit, lol.
Bidding 4♣ as a two suiter is a possibility... but do you really expect partner to raise to 6♥ on
♠ AQxxx
♥ Axx
♦ xx
♣ xxx
(3♣) 4♣ (pass) 4♠
(pass) 5♦ (pass) ??

Apparently, different version of Leaping Michael's exist. In Netherlands, we bid 4♣, which allows partner to ask for the major with 4♦. Maybe a rebid of 4NT would then show this hand, while 5♣ would show spades with a longer diamonds?

4♦, I have ♦ and a Major, this is what I am showing.
And I will make a slam try too, after pd picks his preference.
