:D Some of us would like to use BBO to find partners for our local games and regional tournaments. Adding a small state/provincial flag option to player profiles would facilitate that. Potential local partners could find one another and explore their parnership online. I think it would help BBO's business as well from the word of mouth at local clubs and tourneys.

Why don't you just write down your state/city and the fact you're looking for a RL bridge partner?

You can think of no better way contacting your neighbours than advertising worldwide?

This issue appears to be politically loaded, so it is better to have simple, objective criteria. Maybe nobody would take offense to a Hawaii flag. But what about Quebec? Taiwan? Tibet? Republika Srpska? Euskia? South States? Kosova? Abkasia? Where does it stop? BBO already receives tons of angry emails about this issue and they don't want to make it worse.

My preference would be to let people click their position on a World map.

My second choice would be to put a text field "location" which could be filled in with free text.

Third choice: No location information.

Fourth choice: Let things stay as they are. So that's what I voted for.

:P Thanks for the sensible and thoughtful reply. I very much like your first two ideas. The second would be easier to program. flags are a bad idea.

Your current location may not have anything to do with the flag you fly. Many people just choose the prettiest flag they can find. Most choose the flag that reflects their place of birth or language
Many Tournaments are restricted by flag, not easy if we all start using regional flags. British or Irish tourneys already have this problem. This is a shame, because we tend to use a different system to the rest of bbo. Brits can choose England, Scotland, Wales or N Ireland, all of which would be banned in a Brits only Tourney.
Players from Northern Ireland are banned from Irish Tourneys. Obviously unintensionally, but to litter your profile with additional flags is not the answer

agree with helene. i myself would like to fly a separatist flag.

But, perhaps, if you fly the flags of soccer teams you will find more people who agree with you.

You really think so. I am getting upset by all those fools advertising for tax-havens which have caused so much damage to humanity.

Gibraltar is just one of those.

All those who think they can have fun advertising for dictatorships, poverty or tax-havens are disgustable persons.
