Scoring: IMP

(1)   2   (4) Pass
(Pass) Dbl (Pass) ?

The opponents are playing a strong club system, so 1 is 5+ spades with 11-15 points and 4 is wide ranging.

Why would I care what my opponents are doing? I know what my partner is doing. He has pretty close to:

o 15-17 HCP
o 1
o 4(3)
o 5 (with values)
o 3(4)

I will bid 5.

Rik
I want my opponents to leave my table with a smile on their face and without matchpoints on their score card - in that order.

Pard most likely is 1363, 1462 with HCPs. That seems consistant with a shapely PRE 4 by RHO and the sequence so far. I expect at least 19 total trumps and 19+ total tricks.

5 what else ?

I agree with your bid but I disagree with the shapes you are suggesting. I think all 1453 hands start with a double, e.g.
"Are you saying that LTC merits a more respectful dismissal?"

I have absolutely no idea what it means, either. It must be one of those new-fangled Americanisms, like trick-or-treat
That is the main difference between Old York and New York, 2 nations divided by a common language, but as it does not directly affect me, what is the problemo?

It's been Americanised to "What's The Problem?" :P
