3NT is soooo tempting, but at this vulnerability I will bid a "safe" 4

3NT is not very tempting at all (not to say that it will have no chance, but I doubt that it is right).

I bid 4.

Abstain, the X does not exist.

Well in theory the X should be penalty, so the answer ise Pass, but ..
Given the vulnerability, they being red, I would assume the 3D was not
a psych, meaning the X cant be pen.

4, wtp? Partner made a takeout double and I'm happy to have a good place to go. We simply don't have the values to do more even though game is just possible (AQJx Axx xx Kxxx) although I have trouble thinking of one that's better than a finesse.

Penalty? lol?

partner made a take out double and i dont believe he has 4 tricks in def so 4 cl it is. not hard really. i think 3 nt is a gamble that needs good luck.

I was obviously wrong. I passed and it made with an overtrick. I thought I had good chance of getting two heart ruffs in defense. 4 would have gone down one or two.

Maybe, the alternative is of course, that p did not have the hand
to make a ??? X.
Obviously 4CX-(1,2) is better than 3DX+1, but the difference is mood,
since we have to compare this against 3D+1.

my hand was kqjx kjx xx axxx btw. I gave them a trick, should have been = only. (I think I thought that even if I give her the heart ruff it's not down, but I don't remember)
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.
