I don't overcall a preempt without a good hand. To double first and then bid a suit shows a real monster. I have an ace and two spades - that is enough to raise to game.

After all we all discussed recently that double and a suit does not show a monster one suiter, but more flexibility then just a suit bid.
In this case the rebid is ugly and I would sit and hope for a miracle.
If you are sure that your partner has the monster one suiter, 4 spade is really a wtp...

Not really, it just shows a flexible hand that is pretty good. Overcalling 3S with 54 in the majors and 17 points would really suck!
It really seems to me like some people are confusing Xing 1C and then bidding spades with doubling 3C and then bidding spades.

was it?
I think I would have passed 3♠ at the table... But not sure. Anyways RHO surprised me in a pleasant manner when he bid 3NT which I was happy to double and at least we got +300.

It is certainly a matter how weak a direct 3S could be.
With the original hand, I would have bid 3S, certainly max
for the call, and 4S not being out of the uestion, which may
mean I should raise 3S to 4S.
But I dont need to be logically consistent ...
With kind regards
