1. You open this hand 1NT 3rd seat unfavorable teams. LHO bids 2♦ DONT. Passed round to you.
2. You open this hand 1NT 1st seat favorable teams. LHO bids 2♦ DONT. Passed around to you.
Double of 2♦ would be takeout by both of you.
But partner is not an expert and isn't happy to double for takeout (but he knows that X is not penalty). IF this is relevant.
This is unconfirmed but maybe opps play dont as: 5+♦, 4+M, any strength. (I learned it as 4-4 or better)

my first reaction was: X - you play X as t/o, you have a t/o,
but I overlooked the fact, that you have a 5 card major.
I still would go with X, but 2H is certainly an valid alternative.
With kind regards

Why open 1NT? Well..you have a good 15 HCP tenaced hand and can describe it in one bid. I'm less of a fan of opening 5 card majors 1NT than some here are, but even I think this is a clear 1NT opening.

basically he is telling you that IHO your system suc...er vacuums. Altho I agree with 1NT. The followups are unclear because we don't really know what options your partner passed up as you didn't give system information. The reason many refuse to play TOX with 15-17NT is that it puts pressure on the partner who knows the least about the hand. So tell me which partner knows whether or not game makes sense? Whether penalizing the opponents makes sense? Which partner knows whether it is time to bail out? The 1NT opener is the one who now has to guess all these things. As a consequence responder's failure to act has to be read as "time to bail out, partner" and you have IMO surrendered the penalty X option.

Anyway I kibbed this (good bridge player) guy, he doubled, his partner had 4-3-3-3 with the K of H and the A of D, 2♠ would not have been a good contract, unlike 2♥, his partner actually passed the double, and their opps started doing stupid things after that, landing in 3♣x-3. But normally 2♥ would have been better
