2 for me; if partner has trash with spade length it'll probably be the right spot, and if not, we'll have an easy rebid next round.

Also if 3N is the right spot, opposite, say, Axxx xxx xxx Axx, then 2c might get us there and double almost certainly will not).

why not aren't you going to risk 2NT over 1NT by pard?

If my choices are limited to 2 and double, 2. If I can bid what I like, 2 (top and bottom cue bid).

2. And then:

2N over the likely 2 raise on my left;
3 over a responsive double;

Not sure what I'll do over 3 by pard - is 3 by me forcing?

Lots would double but it just complicates things.

I think so, since you are bidding a suit partner doesn't have --works for me.

+130 in 2 might not be so bad. 4 is either making or one down.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

And with both sides having a nine card fit (unbid) and an 8-card fit, somebody is likely to be keeping the auction open, even if it is not partner.

yes, 2c+130 is better then 4s make or -1
but if they have spades fit, they wont miss it
LHO will bid 2s or even 3s after your bidding
that is why i want to tell my partner i have hearts
eg.
1-(dbl)-2-(3)-4-(5c)
At least ,i can suggest my 2 suits at 5 level.
or you want to stay in
1-(2)- 2-( pass? or x?)-4-(5? or x? or 5?)

2 seems pretty clear to me. Reverse the minors and double is much better than on this hand.

Am not sure ELC is a big consideration with this much playing strength. Would o/c minor with either.
Side issue: If the decision is really, really close, I prefer not to double a major if the opps have Cappeletti tools.

Double. This is why I play Raptor.

it would never occur to me to use Raptor with a hand this strong, I guess it's a question of agreements but we used to play it as 9-14. Now we don't use it at all.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

If the choice was 2C, double or Raptor, then I still go 2C. If there were 5 clubs I would still be reluctant to use Raptor as with this strength it is difficult to continue if LHO raised spades after your 1NT, or if he passes and partner bids. I would also be reluctant to play in a forced heart contract and have to ruff with the top hearts. If partner freely shows hearts over my 2C then that is a different matter.
