Whether you play leben 2nt or not, if you chose to bid 1S you do not get to pass partner's reverse. That is a breaker upper of partnership trust.
great hand

That may well be, but my point is that I believe it's simply wrong for reasons pertaining to your bridge score on the actual hand even if you ignore the issue of partnership trust.

IMO _P = 10, 1♠ = 9
An argument for 1♠ is that we have both majors and some shape. We walruses believe that 1♠ is flawed because we have few points, we don't really want a spade lead, and we may get another shot if opponents protect.
imo Pass = 10, 1S = 0
Hi Ron.
Peggy and I tend to pass on such weak hands as well, but I have noticed that some of the pairs I admire the most, bid on hands even weaker than these! Could you elaborate on why you feel so strongly about this issue?

Maggie, I think the passers' ages are considerably higher on average than the bidders' and you are on the young side of that average
, being 17 years younger than me and ten years younger than Mr. Hog, for instance.

Hi Maggie,
Sorry away from the PC for a while - someone has to work.
Despite Josh's comments, I would not be surprised that if you bid 1S on this hand, you would hear 2NT or maybe 3D. No doubt your hand will be a great disappointment to partner. Consider this, will partner be inclined to bid 2NT / 3D again on marginal hands facing this tripe. You have zero quick tricks and a stiff in partner's suit.
'
I will add this rider: if I were playing a big C system and 1D were limited to 14/15, then a 1S bid would be far more palatable. It seems to me these comments about 1S "stealing the pot" indicate that the quality of the opposition is not that great. 1S would also be a better bid if you had some Ds instead of the measly xx. Your rho passed over 1D as well, suggesting that partner has a nice hand. Why book yourself for a minus score?
