I hope this is the right place to post this, my first forum post ever.

GIB is generally very good. GIB gets the credit for imroving my declarer play by tearing me apart defensively. I even like GIB's bidding system.

A couple of things keep happening, though, that I completely don't understand.

First, an auction where I bid 1 (1NT by GIB), then 2 (2 by GIB), then 3, and GIB still thinks Txx is a stopper and bids 3NT.

Second, GIB will often take a preference to the 7 level over 6NT after a RKCB auction. It seems to be using the same algorithm as deciding when to play 3NT or 4 of a major. I had to go back a while to find one of these, because I stopped trying to play 6NT with anything resembling a suit fit. :D

But meanwhile, I've since gone down twice in 6 of a suit starting "missing Ace and a ruff" when 6NT was cold.

GIB does lots of other interesting stuff, but these two leave me scratching my head. The 7 level problem is probably an easy fix.

That's my two bits. I seriously enjoy this site and all the work y'all do.

It may be worth creating a separate forum for GIB stuff. I presume Ari is still on board and I have certainly appreciated the recent GIB improvements (although I confess I still prefer "systems off" after NT overcalls to keep the opening bidder on lead). One potential benefit from the forum idea, is that many of us who GIB way more than is healthy would probably enjoy empathizing with one anothers' war stories.

I think it would be a good idea to have a GIB area. I am always looking for GIB stuff. I do have some comments about GIBS:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) I log on to BBO through the BBO web site. When there I go to "robot world" and ask to play with 3 GIBs.

But using this method, I can not adjust their playing speed or use the claim button. I would like to have the option to do both of these things.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) GIB is playing the hands better than he/she/it did as lately as a year ago. And I wish to thank whoever has fixed most of the poor play. In particular, GIB does not seem to do the wild unblocking that it used to do when it played the hand.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3)
GIBs opening leads on defense are not particularily good.

GIB doesn't lead my suit.

GIB underleads aces too often.

GIB switches suits too often on defense (this has actually been to my benefit when I have made impossible 3NT bids when my GIB opps are defending and switching).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4) My bidding with GIB seems to be going pretty good. I have to beware of waving red flags at him to avoid impossible slams. But there is one situation that has occurred twice now......so I may be missing something in the system we are playing. I don't know how to use the suit symbols, so in descending order the suits are spades, hearts, diamonds then clubs.

I held as dealer:

1075
AJ85
K4
Q1073

The bidding goes:

P P 1D X
1H P 2C P
?

Playing with a human I would probably redouble with my 10 pretty good points, but I decided to bid one heart. Now I should raise to 3 clubs to block out the spade suit, but I didn't, so alot of what happened (when I passed) was my bad bidding. But partners hand was:

A2
K1032
AQJ873
5

I don't understand the 2 club bid by GIB (I actually thought he had diamonds and clubs). And since it has happened twice I thought I would mention it. In GIB's system when I bid over a double do I promise another bid? Or was GIB being tactical (hoping to correct over opps spade bids)?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I may attempt an ACBL with GIB in the near future.

I've seen GIB do some crazy things, but I don't think I've ever seen that 2 bid. Are you sure you have the auction right? Can you post a handviewer link like AKJxxx did?

BTW, I think most humans these days play that redouble denies a suit that you can bid on the 1 level, so it would be wrong to redouble with your hand. Redoubling with all 10+ hands has gone out of fashion.

And the way to type suit symbols here is to put the abbreviations SP, HE, DI, or CL inside [ and ]. In BBO chat you do it with !S, !H, !D, and !C.

Thank you barmar.

Yes I did get the auction right. Wish I knew how to do a handviewer link.

On "myhands" I am zman102. The hand was "hand 62" at 00:30 on 9/18/2009. The contract was 2 by north for plus 90.

Copy the link location from the "Movie" link.

As strange as it seems, the explanation of the 2 bid is "3+ D; 11-21 HCP; 12-22 total points"; it says nothing about ! I have no idea what system that is, but I guess it's a general forcing bid.

If you check the traveler, you can see that when players raised , GIB then jumped to 4.

I would assume this is just a typo in GIB's system file.
"Are you saying that LTC merits a more respectful dismissal?"
